Black Lungs

$1,500.00

Being new to art, I have tried my hand at a few different styles and techniques. I had not done a natural landscape so I thought a forest scene would be a good place to start. Little did I suspect that it would incite some major feelings in me about climate change and the destruction it was causing all around us.

Literally the week that I finished painting this, much of Maui was decimated by wildfires. Natural disasters continue to increase in frequency and intensity leaving so many at risk.

We are polluting the environment at alarming rates and sickening ourselves in the process without much end in sight.

So what started as an idea to paint a bucolic setting quickly devolved into a painful exercise of trying to get those feelings onto canvas as a reminder about our responsibility to ourselves, our planet, and all the life Earth sustains.

I seems that “leave no trace” means different things to different people.
