Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me
Like much of my art, this project started with taking some risks with colors and techniques. From there, I started to let the painting evolve and take me in new directions. By the end, it was more like the painting was always there, and just waiting to be coaxed out of the canvas.
This piece and the process of making it transported me. I felt like I was sitting in a dive bar on a rainy day in the Lower East Side of NYC. I spent many late nights in the early aughts taking risks in the bar scene where people and their grand ideas would careen into each other and gravity would take hold. You could fall in love, and sometimes leave with a broken heart . . . often all in the same night. It was a magical time in my life when I was finding myself and my way in the world where everything was ripe with endless possibilities.
That kind of energy and mystery exudes from this piece and serves as a reminder to embrace innovative ideas that challenge the norm and push the boundaries.
