Misty Mountain Hop
"The mountain is indifferent to your success or failure. It does not care whether you climb it or not. But in climbing it, you can discover something about yourself that you never knew before." This quote is from Marcus Aurelius, a stoic philosopher and arguably one of the greatest emperors of Rome. It is poignant in expressing that life and growth is about the journey and not the destination . . . Stoic philosophy has always resonated with me because it reminds us to focus our energy on what we can control and look inward rather than outward for solutions to one’s problems. This piece was developed based on a friend’s vision, and it challenged me to grow as an artist. I am grateful for that opportunity, and while this beautiful mountainscape is the end result, it’s the process that was most rewarding. Isn’t it funny — ancient wisdom is sometimes the best guide for us to navigate modern day challenges.
