Off With Your Head
My inspiration for this piece was to create a dramatic pulsing rave scene where light and music manifest as energy and drive motion. The dancers are alive and gripped by a rhythmic and psychedelic haze. They are dancing like it is their last day on Earth . . . who knows what tomorrow will bring or even if there will be a tomorrow.
But that is only half the story. This artwork also has a subversive element. Subversive art is so vital to challenging traditional notions, opening dialogue, and fostering change.
The song lyrics written in pink lipstick at the top right corner (and hidden behind the frame) are from the Radiohead song “Fitter Happier” which includes a computer-generated voice reciting a list of instructions and affirmations, which is a satirical commentary on the modern obsession with self-improvement and the constant pressure to conform to societal norms. The song ends by analogizing this pursuit to being :
“Calm, fitter, healthier and more productive . . . A pig, in a cage, on antibiotics.”
So . . . carpe diem folks.
